• Downloading

Q. I have not been able to download GoalMaker - it took too long and timed out. What do I do now?

If you are on a 56k modem it may be the size of the download that is causing the problem.

The size of the download is primarily caused by the additional Microsoft components we need to include in the installation file to allow for different Windows platforms.

There are two options with a 56k connection:

  1. Download GoalMaker in three parts from the download page. It will still take a long time but is less likely to time-out or ...
  2. Order the Trial on CD This costs $15 but in the event that you decide to register there is no further download required.

• Installation

Q. I have just had to reinstall GoalMaker and the Registration Code you supplied no longer works. What do I do now?

The GoalMaker Registration Code is in part based on the date and time you installed GoalMaker, so by reinstalling this date and time have changed. You can do one of three things:

  1. Restore your GoalMaker database from backup - this is the goals.mdb or "My Goals Database 2000.mdb" file from your goals directory or ...
  2. Get a new Registration Code from the Registration Code pageor ...
  3. E-mail the Registration Code from your currently installed GoalMaker and we will e-mail a replacement code.

Q. I have just installed Version 3 but had to reboot a couple of times - is this normal?

Version 3 requires Version 2.6 of Microsoft's Data Access Components and Version 4 of the Microsoft Access Jet Engine - both of these can require a system reboot before continuing with the installation .

Q. I have installed Version 3 but get "Error # 523 The data binding DLL, VB5DB.DLL could not be loaded" when I open certain forms. How do I resolve this

This DLL should not be required but appears to be a known issue with certain installations. Save the following file into your c:\windows\system or c:\windows\system32 folder (depending on your Windows Operating System):
VB5DB.DLL

Q. I have installed Version 3 but the Help file freezes and I no longer get any response from GoalMaker. How do I resolve this

The format of the help file has changed due to security updates released by Microsoft.  The Standard Edition Version 3.1.7 has the latest Help file - only install if you have already installed GoalMaker.  You can also save the following file into your c:\program files\goalmaker folder as an interim solution:
GoalMaker Std V31 Help.chm

Q. Will GoalMaker run on Apple computers?

GoalMaker currently only runs on Windows platforms - sorry Mac users - we are looking at redeveloping the next major release using Java and XML so set a goal to get GoalMaker then.

• Operation

Q. I change the details of a goal or task by clicking on the Open button from the Outline screen. However, when I close the Goal or Task screen the Outline still shows the old details.

This is similar to the way Windows Explorer operates. Just click on the Refresh button to refresh the data in the Outline.

• Tips and Tricks

Q. I notice GoalMaker uses an Access database - how can I open this database in Access to design my own reports?

Version 3 of GoalMaker uses an Access 2000 database. You can open this database in Access for reporting purposes.

If you are planning on developing a number of queries and reports in Access, we recommend you create a new database and "Attach" the tables from the GoalMaker database so as to not lose your custom queries and reports when installing future upgrades of GoalMaker.

Q. I want to print my roles and goals but not my tasks from the Outine screen - how do I do this?

The print button will print to whichever level you have expanded your outline. All you need to do is click on the Expand button until you have the level of information you want to print, then click on the Print button.
